S-Kids Activity Day

Edith Cowan University (ECU), the Science Teachers Association of WA (STAWA), and Scitech are now in the seventh year of a highly successful initiative to encourage primary school students to take an active interest in science. We are holding a Science for Kids (S-Kids) Day on Saturday, 15th October 2011, from 9.00 am – 3.00 pm at the ECU, Mount Lawley Campus, 2 Bradford St, Mount Lawley.

The purpose of S-Kids day is to promote science education in primary children by:
i.  providing a range of engaging hands-on science activities,
ii.  developing an enthusiasm for science,
iii.  illustrating the application of science in daily life, and
iv.  encouraging an interest in science as a career.

We allow 160 children to be involved in the day, with 25 adults guiding them through the activities. To encourage maximum participation we have endeavoured to keep the costs as low as possible.

A fee of $30 per child will be applied, which includes a BBQ lunch, T-shirt and show bag. The children are split into lower primary (Yrs 1-3) and upper primary (Yrs 4-7) and the activities are geared for that age group. This year we have activities that include for lower primary: Shrek’s swamp and Environmental activities and for the upper primary: Magnets and Chemistry activities along with others.
