Follow the link to the 2017 STS

The Science Teachers’ Association of Western Australia (STAWA), the professional body representing primary and secondary teachers of Science, invites primary and secondary students to participate in the 59th Science Talent Search (STS) competition. The Science Talent Search aims to promote science teaching and learning through creative project work.





Schools participating in STS may also like to register for the Governor’s School STEM Awards.

Register for the STS Launch – May 10: Scitech City West Centre, Railway St & Sutherland Street, Perth WA 6005. Tuesday 10 May / 4.30 – 6.30 pm

There are three categories for entry:

1. Research Investigation

2. Science Communication

3. Engineering

* Entries in these sections may be eligible for selection into the BHP Billiton Science and Engineering Awards.

Monday 4 April School registration opens
Monday 2 May STS launch event – Scitech Discovery Centre
Monday 13 June – Friday 22 July Registration forms for student entries sent to registered schools
Friday 1 July School registration closes
Friday 22 July Student registration closesOnly registered school will be sent student registration information.
Monday 29 June – Friday 29 July Entry labels for registered entries sent to school coordinators
Monday 1 August Judging registration opens
Monday 8 August Metropolitan school and non-regional competition school entries for final judging due to STAWA Office by 5.00 pm
Monday 15 August Finalists entries from regional judging due to STAWA Office by 5.00 pm
Friday 19 August Teacher nominations
Saturday 20 August Judging day
September – TBC Awards ceremony
October – TBC School Coordinators upload entries to BHP Billiton Science and Engineering Awards

The Governor’s School STEM  Awards

The Primary and Secondary Schools awards will acknowledge school leadership and excellence in science and mathematics as part of STEM education. Primary and Secondary schools will be informed of the 2016 details including how to nominate, selection criteria and timeline.
